New Land Training sessions started on 11th November. The 14+yr sessions proved to be a great success with those swimmers who took part. There are still places available for you to take advantage of this fantastic training facility.

The Amateur Swimming Association requires all clubs with Swim 21 accreditation to provide Land Training. LSC has put together these new Land Training sessions in conjunction with the Friary Grange Sports Centre to ensure that you have the opportunity to supplement your pool work with gym sessions.

Unfortunately attendance for the younger age groups has been less encouraging. Hopefully more swimmers will attend future sessions as the viability of providing Land Training depends on your support and commitment. It is the turn of swimmers aged 9-11yrs next Sunday – hope to see you there.

If you have not already signed up, remaining sessions will be £2.35, payable to Ann Mercer on Wednesdays.  Up to Christmas there are three sessions for the 9-11yr age group (at junior school), two remaining sessions for the 11-13yr olds (at senior school) and five further sessions for the 14+ yrs.

Plans for the Presentation Evening on 5th January are progressing well – thanks to Nicky Rich for her hard work organising this event. Please return any trophies by the IM gala so that they can be engraved with the new winner’s name in time for the big night.  Also Ribbon Gala entries by the same date please.

Each year the club awards a Superstars Trophy to a swimmer who has achieved success in sports other than their swimming. If you would like to nominate someone for this trophy, please give their name and details of their sporting achievements to Paul or Sally by next week.

The committee needs new members! Many of you already help on poolside with administration and at galas and your contribution is greatly appreciated. However, the club is in desperate need of volunteers to join the committee. Meetings are on the second Monday of each month (no meeting in August). If you would like a say in how the club is managed please volunteer to join.

LSC needs …..

Please help to ensure the continued good management of LSC – we are very proud of our club and our aim is always to provide the best for our swimmers.

Our coaches and swimmers were buzzing after experiencing the Boldmere Swim Clinic last month.

Bill Furniss, GB coach, provided fantastic tips and advice and the swimmers were treated to demonstrations by top flight swimmers.

The day was a huge success and one we are delighted to be able to repeat in February 2008. We have eight places reserved for this next clinic. If you would like to be a part of this tremendous training opportunity, details are on the club notice board. The total cost per person for the day is £50 but this will be partially subsidised by the club as we believe it is an opportunity not to be missed!

You should have received a letter regarding the use of video equipment as a training aid. If you have not yet received details, the letter is displayed on the club notice board, has been added to the swimmer’s pack for new members and will be handed out to swimmers again.

The T15 sponsored swim took place last Wednesday. Thanks to all swimmers for supporting this worthwhile charity. LSC has supported a number of charities in the past, such as St Giles Hospice and the Guide Dog Association. Let’s hope we raise an impressive amount this year! Dave Stanley is coordinating the fund raising – if you don’t manage to see him to hand in your sponsorship money, Ann will collect your contributions on Wednesdays.

A big thank you to Vicky Askew for inputting members’ email details to the Club’s email address. This edition of Splatter will be the first to be sent electronically to our members. Email addresses were collected at registration in January - if you don’t receive this newsletter by email – and would like to receive future notices that way, please send your email address to:

lichfieldswimmingclub@hotmail.co.uk

and we will add you to our list.

Thanks for the great response to the Child Protection Course. So far we have nine volunteers attending the course on 15th January and two on 6th December. If you already help on poolside, or are thinking of volunteering, please consider taking part in one of these courses. See Nick Davison for details. The safety of our swimmers is paramount.

Calling all budding IT students! If you would like to be involved in helping to manage the club website, please give your name to Sally or Paul. Helping out will provide a great opportunity to practice your skills – and has the added advantage of looking good on your CV!

Finally a quick update on Swim 21. Our submission was approved by the West Midlands Regional Panel and the files have been sent for approval by the National Panel. We should hear in a week or so whether we have been awarded Swim 21 accreditation for our second 4 year period. The Swim 21 coordinator for the West Midlands Region also asked if our files could be used to assist another club in their efforts to achieve Swim 21 accreditation – the committee and coaches were really pleased with this request as it shows that the  systems, organisation and plans, etc that we have in place are of a good standard.
