Circuit training for swimmers aged 11-13yrs (must be at senior school) will commence on 11th November. Sessions will alternate between the two age groups. The 9-11yrs (& attending junior school) will therefore have their first session on 18th November. The next session on the 25th November will revert to the 11-13yrs age group. The final session will be on 16th December. This means that there will be 3 sessions for each age group before the Christmas break. The cost for 3 sessions will be £7 and fees are payable in advance to Ann Mercer. Fees should be paid by 7th November. Please sign the list if you wish to take part in these sessions. There are limited spaces available so you must sign up to one of the 15 places for your age group if you want to attend. All sessions will be led by Tessa Harrison, a Sports Science Graduate. LSC has been working with Friary Grange Sports Centre to provide an exciting new approach to the provision of Land Training and we look forward to our swimmers enjoying the new sessions Congratulations to Emily Fowler-Parkes who recently won a silver medal in the 100m sprint at the “Wenlock Olympian games”. Competitors came from the Midlands, Wolverhampton

and the Welsh Borders. Emily also achieved a PB despite running in the pouring rain! Two Child Protection Courses are being held on 6th December from 6.30-9.30pm at Belgrave Sports centre in Tamworth and 15th January 6.30-9.30pm at King Edwards Sports centre in Lichfield. LSC takes the safety and welfare of its swimmers seriously and all poolside helpers, members of the coaching team, newly qualified teachers, chaperones, officials, etc are encouraged and required to undertake appropriate training. If you have not yet attended a course, but help in one of these roles, please speak to Nick (who runs the club shop on Wednesdays) to enrol on one of these courses. Course fees are paid for by the club. We also need more officials - if you are interested in finding out more please speak to Lesley. Without officials we will be unable to run galas. The Annual Presentation Evening is being held on 5th January at the Snowdome in Tamworth. This year swimmers and their families will be able to enjoy skating together followed by a buffet and the presentation of trophies. Further details will be circulated soon. A Swimmer of the Gala Trophy will be awarded at the end galas. The swimmer will be selected by the coaching team based on such things as commitment, PBs, attitude & contribution to the team.

Yessss! The motivation and positive thinking workshop on 28th September was a fantastic success with a full audience and standing room only! We hope you all enjoyed the presentation and more importantly went away feeling it had been a worthwhile experience. The speaker, David Hyner, did not charge for the workshop; however he requested that the club make a donation to his preferred charity. To raise funds, swimmers will take part in a sponsored swim on 7th November. Sponsorship forms will be circulated to all swimmers. We will also hold raffles at the next few home galas, with all monies raised going to David’s charity. If you would like to receive notices, newsletters, etc by email please send your details and email address to the club’s address at lichfieldswimmingclub@hotmail.co.uk and we will add it to our list. We are hoping to update our records to include email addresses so that correspondence can be sent electronically to as many members as possible. Unfortunately, the Relay Gala on 3rd November is no longer a fixture this year. Finally – we are looking for more committee members. We also need someone to audit the club’s accounts as Mr Jeacock, who for more than 20 years has given his services to the club, will no longer be able to carry out this task. |
